About Us

One of the ADI Group of companies, which began business in 1945 providing consulting engineering services to Atlantic Canadian clients, ADI Systems Inc. has grown to become a world leader in providing treatment technology and turnkey solutions for the industrial marketplace. We can offer a wide variety of solutions—from treatment to water reuse—to meet the needs of virtually any industry.

Early Beginnings

ADI initially began research in the industrial wastewater treatment field in 1975, with work on the development of a unique form of anaerobic digestion technology. This early research led to the creation of the patented ADI-BVF® system, which is now the world’s leading low-rate industrial anaerobic treatment technology. Early success with the BVF® technology at potato processing plants in England and France in the late 1970s and early 1980s led to further expansion of the business into the USA, with several installations at dairies, corn processing and pharmaceutical plants. The early 1980s also saw expansion into India through a partner company and the installation of a number of ADI-BVF® systems at molasses distilleries.

Design-Build and Turnkey Systems

In 1987 ADI completed its first design-build project, an anaerobic-aerobic treatment system for Sara Lee. Since then we’ve completed over fifty complete design-build and turnkey projects. Now our primary business model, design-build projects offer a number of benefits to our clients including a “one-stop shop” for a complete treatment solution, a single point of contact and responsibility, a single contract, and consistency in design and construction quality throughout the system.

Strategic Partnerships

In 2003 ADI partnered with the Kubota Corporation and became a licensee of its world-leading aerobic membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for the North American industrial market.  ADI’s global reach has also allowed us to execute MBR projects in a number of other overseas markets, including the first Kubota MBR systems in South America and the Philippines.

Kubota - A Name You Can Trust

Having completed several treatment systems at corn products and corn-to-ethanol facilities in the early and mid-1990s, ADI was quick to recognize the opportunities in the rapidly expanding biofuels market (ethanol and biodiesel).  To help expand our offerings in that marketplace and beyond, ADI Systems Inc. partnered with Phoenix Bio-Systems and ICM, Inc. in 2005 in order to be able to utilize the standard technology for dry mill ethanol plant evaporator condensate treatment, the ICM Bio-Methanator. ADI can utilize the high-rate anaerobic EGSB/UASB technology in ethanol plants and a variety of other industries worldwide.

In 2007 ADI partnered with the Kubota Corporation once again to help bring Kubota’s unique submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) technology to the North American industrial marketplace. As the exclusive North American industrial provider of this technology, we believe we have further solidified ourselves as a supplier of the world’s leading industrial wastewater treatment technologies.

The Future

ADI will continue to strive to maintain its place as one of the world’s leading suppliers of industrial wastewater treatment technologies in a rapidly changing global marketplace by:

  • Adding or developing new treatment technologies so we can offer more solutions and greater value to our customers
  • Expanding into new industries to increase the number of clients and end users that can benefit from our knowledge, experience and treatment technologies
  • Enlarging our geographic reach to increase opportunities to provide wastewater treatment, renewable energy and water recycling solutions to industrial clients everywhere.
